Magic Words

Some people don’t believe in Motivation because they say it doesn’t last.  Neither does a Bath or a Shower however it’s a good idea to take one everyday. If you can’t get excited about each and every day of your Life, try missing a day sometime.

You have to “Expect” it…

Did you ever have one of those moments when all of a sudden you realize that you do something very powerful and that thing comes to you naturally as part of your everyday actions? As a matter of fact, you have actually mentored people to do the same?

{mosimage}I had one of those “moments” when I was telling a story about something I once heard from a friend many years ago. My friend and I were colleagues in a very competitive sales organization – we sold life A&D insurance.  We did a lot of networking and were very committed to goal setting.  He had told me about a networking lunch that he had attended for Christian businessmen which had a speaker during the lunch.  He told me that the speaker simply said for 45 minutes straight – “It’s Friday but Sunday is coming”.

This statement of course referred to the resurrection of Jesus Christ – but the more I thought about what he was telling me the more I interpreted this simple message in another way.  If you expect and believe things will get better- they will.  I really believed it was a powerful thought and in fact I have encouraged people with this thought for many years.  That is when I had the ‘moment”. I had been doing something for years that came as second nature and I never recognized it. Now I am not telling this story as a way to examine your religious persuasions or to question your faith, but rather to discuss a practice that has allowed me to be very successful over the years and to help mentor others to achieve their own successes.

We all know of one of the most powerful tools we have is our will. We have trained ourselves to believe in our abilities so that we can achieve our goals. But I have gathered so much strength from the simple fact that I expect things to happen and they normally do.  In life and in our careers we have to always expect the things that we want or expect the outcome we desire as part of our formula for success.

{sidebar id=10}Imagine if you will…you have done all of the work, you have put in the time; you believe in what you are doing, you have followed your plan – if you don’t expect success - you are destined to fail.

You have to expect to make a plan

You have to expect your knowledge will handle any situation

You have to expect that your skills will carry you

You have to expect to practice to improve your technique

You have to expect to prepare for all of the possibilities

You have to expect to go the extra mile

You have to expect to dedicate yourself to your success

You have to expect to win the game

You have to expect a positive outcome

Expectation is the glue that binds you to success. All of the preparation and dedication in the world can be undermined simply by not expecting a positive outcome.

I will leave you with this thought: Put your will to work and clearly expect what you want and you can make it happen.
