Greater Than Yourself - Book Review
Greater Than Yourself by Steve Farber is a wonderful book. Written in parable style the story is so engaging that it's hard to put down. More important is the ultimate lesson that the best leaders are the people who actually help others become better than they are themselves.
Over the years I've been blessed to have worked under "GTY Leaders" and it was amazing to see their leadership philosophies reflected in the pages of the book. I was impressed at how well Faber was able to capture and communitcate the characteristics of these rare indivuduals - people who subscribe to his Greater Than Yourself Principles: Expand Yourself, Give Yourself, and Replicate Yourself.
Farber weaves his message in an emotional story that draws you in and makes you really think about your real motivation when working with others. Through these thought-provoking ideas and actionable principles, Greater Than Yourself offers what I think is the most powerful message today's business leaders can learn: The goal of true leadership is to help others become more capable, confident, and accomplished than yourself.
This book is outstanding and should be required reading for every coach, mentor and leader. And if you lead leaders, give them Greater Than Yourself and get to work on a GTY Project.
