Impacting the Interview
So, what makes us different? When we interview, that is all the interviewer truly wants to know. What makes us different from other persons that want the same job? The difference is the inner belief that you are the best! And, as a result of your self confidence, drive, and passion, the company will get more results for the same money when they choose you for employment. This is the impact that you want to deliver during an interview.
What can you do? We make very powerful impressions as soon as we enter the interview area. Honestly, there is nothing we can physically do different after that first impression is made. But we can do something the day before, for instance:
1) Professional Attire: Your interview clothes should be neatly pressed and clean. Your interview clothes should not be worn until you are literally on your way to the interview. If you have to do ANYTHING BEFORE the interview, use a garment bag and a clean bathroom to get properly dressed for the interview. Simple Terms: if you want to be treated as a professional, you have to look professional.
2) Punctuality: You want to be at your interview site 30 minutes before the actual interview. This gives the opportunity to adjust to your new environment and relax prior to being bombarded with questions. Simple Terms: if you are late for the interview, why would I think you would be on time for work.
3) Set the Expectation: 24 hours before the interview, send a confirmation email restating your excitement about meeting the interviewer the next day. Simple Terms: Remind them that you are ready, well prepared, and passionate about this interview.
4) Rested: Just in case the interviewer is boring and introverted, your energy is needed to make the interview successful. Simple Terms: if you fall asleep or look tired for the interview, it is HIGHLY unlikely you will get the job.
