Sales/Application Engineer I - Compression


Ensuring Chart's Success...
The Sales Engineer (SE) is responsible for providing internal sales support by responding to identified inquiries for the sale of Air Cooled Heat Exchangers within the Gas Transmission and Processing, Oil Refining, Petrochemicals and Power industries. The SE is to carry forward Chart's sales strategy by coordinating RFQ responses direct with the customer and the Business Development Manager(s). The SE is responsible for receipt of inquiry, proper internal coordination with all departments and reporting, engineering, estimating and proposal development consistent with the sales strategy provided by the Regional Sales Manager(s) and third party representatives.

What Your Day-to-Day Activities Will Be...
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (scope):
General:
  • Receive RFQ(s) per assigned accounts. In addition to assigned accounts, inquires will also be received from opportunistic customers.
  • Review all inquiry documents and coordinate with client and the outside sales groups to ensure that all documents have been received.
  • Load both inquiries and sold projects into sales database for tracking purposes.
  • Follow the Chart Reservation of Authority (ROA) guidelines for project review and signature requirements.
  • Set up internal bid review meetings in accordance with the ROA and in advance of bid due dates.
  • As quickly as possible, not to exceed 72 hours, load sold projects and coordinate with accounting for the required data entry.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Engineering:

  • Review and incorporate RFQ documents into the rating and design of the Air Cooled Heat Exchangers.
  • Understanding of the design principles for Air Cooled Heat Exchangers specific for the Gas Compression Industry.
  • Continuous improvement to develop skills with varying engineering programs and global codes.
  • Participate and provide input to engineering applications while working with CCSC's engineering and drafting groups.

Estimating:
  • Beyond engineering efforts, utilize the Chart proprietary estimating software to develop pricing for the Air Cooled Heat Exchangers.
  • Work with operations and procurement to obtain the best possible pricing for materials, equipment and those items that are not considered standard.
  • Understand and develop accurate job cost for projects while taking into consideration contingency and material escalation.
  • Work with management and the external sales groups to establish a Gross Margin level. Be prepared to discuss different GM levels by having a developed spreadsheet demonstrating the project(s) cost versus varying mark-ups.
  • Have metrics prepared for the unit(s) during reviews.
  • Develop an understanding of Terms and Conditions and what cost impacts are possibilities.
  • Work with operations to develop pricing for change orders.

Sales:
  • Develop proposals in line with the customer needs. This includes writing tailored proposals to specific projects.
  • Document and distribute meeting notes from all customer discussions.
  • Once a project is sold and if required, establish and execute a turnover meeting with the appropriate operations counterparts.
  • Field calls and when necessary work with operations to solve Warranty and other issues that can develop.
  • Attend client visits with the Business Development Manager(s) for client meetings, lunch and learns, industry trade shows and general relationship calls.
  • Work with management and the Business Development Manager(s) to develop plans for increasing business with non-key accounts.

  1. Customer relationships.
  2. Design and estimate accurately and competitively.
  3. New Orders and their associated gross margin.


Your Education Should Be...
  1. Industry experience or bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical engineering.
  2. Knowledge of Heat Transfer equipment and experience using HTRI, Aspen HYSYS or any other qualified Air Cooled Heat Exchanger program.
  3. Knowledge and experience using engine and compressor rating programs such as Caterpillar Gas Engine Rating Program (GERP), Waukesha Engine Rating Program, Ariel Compressor Program, etc.
  4. Minimum of (3) three years' experience designing and quoting Air Cooled Heat Exchangers for the Gas Compression Industry is strongly preferred.


Your Physical Work Environment Will Require...
  • Must be able to remain sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to do occasional lifting up to 35lbs as regular daily activities necessitate.
